MONROVIA – Downtown Football Club has officially announced the departure of Head Coach Sam Chebli, confirming that both parties have mutually agreed to terminate their contract ahead of the upcoming league season.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 25, 2026, the club noted that the decision was reached amicably and reflected the mutual respect shared between the management and the veteran tactician.
“Downtown Football Club wishes to officially announce that the club and Head Coach Sam Chebli have mutually agreed to part ways,” the club stated. “The club would like to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Coach Chebli for his dedication, professionalism, and hard work throughout his tenure.”
Downtown FC further credited Chebli for his immense contributions to the team’s development, wishing him success in the next chapter of his coaching career.

A former Liberian international, he previously managed FC Fassell and famously guided Black Man Warriors to Orange Cup success, cementing his status as one of the country’s most experienced tactical minds.
His exit comes amid intensifying speculation surrounding his next destination.
Sources close to the development have disclosed to FrontPage Africa that LISCR FC has already opened talks with Chebli to fill its vacant head coaching position.
According to the sources, the “Shipping Boys” view Chebli as a prime candidate to take the reins as preparations kick into high gear for the 2026/2027 football season.
While negotiations are reportedly progressing well, no official agreement has been finalized.
At the time of press, neither LISCR FC management nor Chebli had publicly commented on the ongoing talks.
If a deal is reached, Chebli will take over one of Liberia’s most ambitious clubs, with the immediate task of rebuilding the squad to challenge for major domestic silverware in the upcoming campaign.
