I have chosen to assemble you here today not to meddle into the ongoing investigation, relative to the June 8th seizure of the 237.6 kilograms or 198 compressed plates of cocaine at the Roberts International Airport.
I have elected not to use this medium to talk about this trending matter not because it is a trivial issue or not gravely concerning, but simply because all of what I had to say have already been said by others.
All I now hope for is that the outcome of the investigation will reflect the actualities and those that shall be found liable for this protracted wickedness are prosecuted accordingly.
My purpose of calling you here today is to briefly discuss how a blessing has turned into a cause in Liberia before our very eyes.
Liberia is one nation that God has tremendously blessed with almost all of the valuable natural resources on planet earth, but it regretful to see that this blessing has been turned into a cause; which is why the country and the vast majority its people are abjectly poor.
My research has shown that since the founding of the nation in 1847, all of the concessions signed have been in the best interest of the concessionaires and not the country and the people.
Starting from Firestone, LAMCO, Bong Mines to ArcelorMittal, Bea Mountain, China Union, etc.
And the reason for this ugly situation is simple—most of our leaders take bribes or kickbacks in exchange of securing or protecting the interest of the nation and the people.
These leaders are always comprised of officials of the three (3) braches of the Liberian government and other stakeholders.
As a patriot, I wish to strongly recommend that we the people find a way to prevail on our leaders to change their unpatriotic ways by ensuring that the natural resources God has endowed us with be used as a blessing for the country and the people rather than turning it into a cause against us.
This can be done by reviewing the terms and conditions of all existing concession agreements with the singular aim of prioritizing the interest of the nation and the people.
When this is done, it will also help to streamline future concession deals and all other corporate agreements in the country.
Please stop taking everything for yourselves at the detriment of the majority of our people.
