MONROVIA –Montserrado County Electoral District Electoral #2 Representative, Sekou S. Kanneh, has officially announced the resumption of the long-delayed Niklay Town–Rehab–Wein Town Road Project, bringing renewed hope to residents and communities along the corridor.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Rep. Kanneh informed residents of Niklay Town, Rehab, Wein Town, Kelleh Mansion, and surrounding communities that after nearly two years of delays, the Government of Liberia has reached an agreement with the contractor that will allow the project to move forward.
“We have gone two years, and today we want to officially announce to our people that the project will commence. The Government of Liberia has renegotiated and held discussions with the contractor, made an initial payment for previous works completed, and all parties have agreed to resume construction,” Rep. Kanneh said.
The lawmaker thanked residents for their patience and resilience throughout the delay.
“I want to sincerely thank our people and the leadership of the affected communities for their patience and understanding. We know the hardships they have endured over the past two years, but today we can begin to see light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
Rep. Kanneh also commended the Ministry of Public Works for its role in advancing the project, praising the ministry’s cooperation and commitment throughout negotiations.
He further applauded Solid Rock Investment and its management for remaining committed despite the prolonged suspension.
“I understand what it means from a business perspective to remain committed after waiting for years. We appreciate Solid Rock’s patience and dedication to ensuring this project becomes a reality,” he pointed out.
Rep. Kanneh urged residents to continue cooperating with the government and project stakeholders as implementation progresses.
“This project will be executed in phases, but the most important thing is that the contractor is returning to the site and immediate interventions will be undertaken to improve accessibility during the rainy season,” he emphasized.
For her part, Solid Rock Investment Chief Executive Officer Jodie Reid Seton reaffirmed the company’s commitment to completing the project and praised Rep. Kanneh for his persistent engagement with relevant government institutions.
“Every ministry I contacted regarding this project, whether Public Works, the Road Fund, or Finance, immediately acknowledged Representative Kanneh’s commitment and involvement. That level of engagement and networking has been instrumental in moving this project forward,” she said.
Mrs. Seton explained that although the project began in 2019, several challenges forced work to stop.
However, recent government payments for completed works have created the opportunity to resume construction.
“The government has made payments for work already completed, and we are fully committed to returning to the site. However, given the current rainy season, we cannot immediately undertake major technical works such as concrete laying and related construction activities,” she explained.
She assured residents that immediate maintenance work would begin to improve road conditions while preparations continue for full-scale construction.
“What we can promise is road maintenance in collaboration with the communities by identifying the critical areas causing the greatest difficulties. Our equipment and machinery will be deployed to improve accessibility during the rainy season, and immediately after the rains we will begin the major technical work.”
Responding to questions about the project’s timeline, Mrs. Seton said mobilization efforts are already underway.
“As soon as possible. We have already begun discussions on mobilization and everything required to move the project forward,” she concluded.
The resumption of the project is expected to significantly improve transportation, mobility, and access for residents, businesses, and commuters along the Niklay Town–Rehab–Wein Town corridor.
