Mr. Cummings, accompanied by a high-powered delegation, met with top officials of the football governing body in an engagement both sides described as a meaningful dialogue centered on the future of Liberian sports and the opportunities football can unlock for young people across the country.
Speaking during the meeting, the ANC political leader emphasized that football remains one of the most potent instruments for peacebuilding and social cohesion in Liberia.
“Football and sports serve as a unifying force that strengthens the bonds of our nation,” Cummings stated. “Beyond entertainment, sports create opportunities, inspire hope, and help guide young people toward discipline and purpose.”

He stressed the urgent need for increased public and private investment in sports development, pointing out that young Liberian athletes continue to face severe bottlenecks, including a lack of standard training facilities, modern equipment, and educational opportunities.
According to Cummings, empowering Liberia’s youth through organized sporting programs can significantly contribute to reducing social vices while promoting national pride and grassroots talent development.
The opposition leader also praised the LFA leadership for its continuous efforts in promoting the game across the country and maintaining programs aimed at developing grassroots football despite limited resources.
Sources close to the discussions disclosed that the meeting also touched on the critical importance of strategic collaborations between national stakeholders, the private sector, and sporting institutions to strengthen Liberia’s dilapidated football infrastructure and create sustainable career paths for young athletes.
For his part, LFA President Mustapha Raji welcomed the ANC leader and expressed appreciation for his interest in sports development and youth empowerment.
The visit comes at a time when football stakeholders are intensifying calls for greater budgetary support and corporate sponsorship for Liberia’s sporting sector.
Many inside the local football community continue to emphasize the need for improved infrastructure, capacity building for local coaches, and stronger institutional support to elevate the country’s football standards on the continental stage.
Local observers say Cummings’ engagement highlights a growing recognition among national political leaders of the critical role sports can play in fostering peace, unity, and social transformation in Liberia.
