Monrovia – As the Liberia Football Association (LFA) approaches its highly anticipated 2026 leadership elections, a prominent voice within the football community is calling for calm, unity, and strict adherence to electoral guidelines to safeguard the future of the sport.

Jonathan Armah Baxter, a former striker for NPA Anchors and the national team has urged all aspirants, stakeholders, and eligible voters to conduct themselves in accordance with the statutes governing the electoral process.
The LFA elections are scheduled to take place on May 15, 2026, at the association’s headquarters on SKD Boulevard.
Speaking in an interview with FrontPage Africa, Baxter emphasized that the credibility of the polls and the trajectory of football development in Liberia depend heavily on the willingness of participants to prioritize the collective good over personal interests.
“My call to football stakeholders and officials of the LFA is to put aside their individual differences and follow the guidelines set for the elections,” Baxter said.
“They should ensure the process is peaceful, transparent, and timely, and elect leaders who are passionate about developing football in Liberia not those driven by self-interest.”
He stressed that the outcome of the elections will play a decisive role in shaping youth development programs and strengthening the nation’s footballing infrastructure.
Infrastructure Gains
Baxter also highlighted the strides made under the current leadership of LFA President Mustapha Raji, particularly regarding infrastructure.
He described the construction and rehabilitation of football pitches across the country as “encouraging” and a vital step toward nurturing young talent.
According to Baxter, the progress recorded under the Raji administration demonstrates a tangible commitment to grassroots football and youth empowerment.
“Since Mr. Raji took over, we have seen meaningful changes that support youth skill development,” Baxter noted. “With the level of infrastructure development, especially football pitches across the country, I believe he deserves a third term to continue these efforts.”
He added that continuity in leadership could further expand football programs across Liberia’s 15 counties, ensuring broader participation and sustained growth of the sport.
