Monrovia — In a move aimed at expanding financial inclusion and strengthening regional connectivity, BNB Liberia and Orange Money Liberia have officially launched an International Remittance Outbound Service, allowing Liberians to send money directly from their mobile wallets to several African countries.

The new service, unveiled on Thursday in Monrovia, enables Orange Money subscribers to transfer funds quickly and securely to recipients in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Uganda, and Rwanda. As part of efforts to encourage customer adoption, transactions through the service will be free for the first three months.
The initiative is being hailed as another significant milestone in Liberia’s rapidly evolving digital financial sector, where mobile money continues to play a critical role in expanding access to financial services.
Speaking during the launch ceremony held at Orange Liberia’s headquarters, The Icon 16, BNB Liberia Managing Director David Ojo said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to building a more inclusive and connected financial ecosystem.
“Financial services should be accessible to everyone, regardless of location,” Ojo stated. “Through this partnership, we are creating opportunities for Liberians to connect with families, businesses, and communities across Africa through safe and affordable digital transactions.”
The service allows customers to send money directly from their Orange Money wallets by dialing 144113#, eliminating many of the traditional barriers associated with international money transfers.
For BNB Liberia, the launch adds to a growing list of innovations that have positioned the company among the country’s leading fintech institutions. The company has introduced several digital financial solutions, including mobile wallet remittances, digital foreign exchange services, mobile money interoperability, and electronic bill payment platforms.
Industry observers believe the new outbound remittance service could provide significant benefits for traders, students, families, and entrepreneurs who regularly conduct financial transactions across borders.
The partnership also aligns with broader efforts to promote regional integration and economic growth through technology-driven financial services.
As Liberia continues its digital transformation journey, stakeholders say innovations such as the International Remittance Outbound Service will play an increasingly important role in bridging financial gaps and ensuring that more citizens can participate in the digital economy.
The launch brought together representatives from the telecommunications sector, financial institutions, regulators, and other key stakeholders, all of whom welcomed the initiative as a positive contribution to Liberia’s growing fintech landscape.
