BONG COUNTY – Residents across several communities in Electoral District 1, Bong County, have welcomed Representative Prince K. Koinah’s ongoing district assessment and consultation tour, describing the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening citizen participation in local development planning.

The week-long engagement, which has taken the lawmaker to towns and villages across the district, has created a platform for residents to directly interact with their elected representative and discuss the challenges confronting their communities. The exercise has also enabled local leaders, women’s groups, youth organizations, and elders to present recommendations aimed at improving living conditions throughout the district.
Throughout the tour, Representative Koinah has been meeting with citizens in town hall gatherings, inspecting development projects, and assessing infrastructure needs in various communities.
Residents have used the opportunity to outline concerns ranging from poor road conditions and limited healthcare services to educational challenges and agricultural constraints affecting local farmers.
Community members say the lawmaker’s decision to leave his office and engage citizens at the grassroots level demonstrates a commitment to inclusive leadership and people-centered governance. Many residents noted that direct consultations of this nature provide a clearer understanding of the realities facing ordinary citizens.
Speaking during a gathering in one of the communities visited, Representative Koinah said the purpose of the district tour is to ensure that development decisions are informed by the actual needs and priorities of the people.
“The people of District One elected me to serve them, and that service begins with listening. I cannot effectively represent communities if I do not regularly sit with the people, hear their concerns, and understand their aspirations. This tour is about strengthening that relationship and ensuring that every voice matters in the development process,” Representative Koinah stated.
The Bong County lawmaker emphasized that meaningful development can only be achieved when citizens are actively involved in identifying priorities and contributing to solutions.
According to Representative Koinah, the district-wide engagement is intended to provide a comprehensive assessment of the needs of various communities while creating an avenue for open dialogue between citizens and their representative.
“We want development to be driven by facts and realities on the ground. The information gathered during this tour will help shape interventions that are practical, sustainable, and beneficial to the greatest number of people in our district,” he said.
The lawmaker further noted that community consultations remain an essential part of democratic governance because they help bridge the gap between elected officials and the people they represent.
He explained that many challenges facing rural communities are often overlooked when policymakers rely solely on reports rather than first-hand engagement. He stressed that seeing conditions personally and hearing directly from residents provide a more accurate picture of what communities truly need.
Representative Koinah also pledged to continue advocating for investments in healthcare, education, agriculture, road connectivity, and youth empowerment programs throughout the district.
He said the district tour should not be viewed as a political exercise but rather as an accountability mechanism designed to ensure that elected leaders remain accessible and responsive to the people.
“The essence of this engagement is accountability. Citizens deserve to know what their leaders are doing, and leaders have a responsibility to understand what citizens expect from them. This tour reinforces that principle and strengthens public trust,” Representative Koinah added.
The lawmaker described the tour as an opportunity to build a shared vision for the future of District One
“When communities participate in shaping development priorities, they become partners in progress rather than spectators. What we are doing today is laying the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous district tomorrow,” he said.
Residents who attended the various meetings praised the initiative and expressed appreciation for the lawmaker’s willingness to engage directly with citizens.
Madam Sarah Flomo, a community leader, said the visit gave residents a rare opportunity to discuss local challenges face-to-face with their elected representative.
She noted that many of the concerns affecting communities often go unheard and expressed satisfaction that Representative Koinah took the time to listen to citizens and inspect development projects personally.
“We are grateful that our representative came to meet us where we live instead of waiting for us to travel long distances to reach him. It shows that he values the people and wants to understand our challenges first-hand,” she said.
Another resident, youth advocate James Kollie, described the district tour as a positive example of responsive leadership.
According to Kollie, the consultations have given young people an opportunity to share ideas and contribute to discussions about the future of their communities.
“We appreciate Representative Koinah for creating space for citizens to speak openly. Development is more effective when leaders listen, and that is exactly what we are witnessing during this tour,” Kollie remarked.
