Monrovia – The Liberia Petroleum and Refining Company (LPRC) has donated 100 brand-new delivery beds and six modern anesthetic machines to the Ministry of Health for distribution to selected health facilities across Liberia.
Presenting the equipment during a turnover ceremony at the Ministry of Health, LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh described the donation as part of the company’s commitment to supporting national development and improving healthcare delivery.
Tweh emphasized that the donation goes beyond the provision of medical equipment.
“We are not just turning over medical equipment, but investing in lives, hope, dignity and the future of the health sector,” he said.
Highlighting the broader role of corporate institutions in national development, Tweh noted: “A strong nation is not measured only by barrels of fuel stored, but by lives saved, children educated, and students empowered.”
He added that the delivery beds and anesthetic machines would directly contribute to improving maternal healthcare and lifesaving surgical services across the country.
“Every delivery bed represents a mother who will lie down with more dignity to give birth to a child. Every anesthetic machine represents a surgeon who can save a life without fear,” Tweh said.
The LPRC Managing Director further stressed the importance of addressing maternal and child health challenges in Liberia.
He added: “In a nation where maternal and child health remains one of our shared challenges, these tools are not just iron and motors. They are mercy in motion. They are LPRC saying: ‘Your pain is our concern. Your survival is our duty and utmost priority.'”
According to Tweh, the donation forms part of LPRC’s 2025 Fiscal Year Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“CSR at LPRC is not a once-a-year event. It defines who we are beyond the supply of petroleum products in the commerce of Liberia,” he said.
He noted that ensuring a stable fuel supply must be accompanied by efforts to promote social development, adding that LPRC has continued to support other critical sectors, including education.
Tweh said the company has contributed to school rehabilitation projects, provided learning materials, and invested in scholarship opportunities.
“Today, I am pleased to announce that as part of this year’s CSR, we are currently renovating a school in Nimba County to give our children safer, more dignified classrooms,” he said.
He also disclosed plans for a major educational infrastructure project at Grand Gedeh University.
He said: “We are also about to embark on the construction of a modern student center at Grand Gedeh University. A place where young minds can gather, collaborate, and build the ideas that will move Liberia forward.”
Reaffirming LPRC’s partnership with the government, Tweh assured the Ministry of Health of the company’s continued support.
“Madam Minister, as you receive these beds and machines today on behalf of the Ministry of Health for distribution to targeted health facilities, know that LPRC will continue to remain a reliable partner to central government,” he said.
Receiving the donation, Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto praised LPRC for the contribution, noting that the equipment would significantly strengthen the ministry’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services.
“It may look like equipment to you, but for us it’s a lifesaver because we use these machines to save lives,” Minister Kpoto said.
