The presentation ceremony was held on Friday, June 5  at the Pleebo City Hall and brought together commissioners, county authorities, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders.

Records from the county administration indicate that each motorbike cost US$1,195, bringing the total cost of the eight bikes to US$9,560.

Presenting the motorbikes, Maryland County Superintendent, Henry B. Cole Jr.,  said the bikes were procured through the County Development Fund to enhance the mobility and effectiveness of commissioners in carrying out their duties.

“This presentation marks a new beginning of our activities as local government officials of Maryland County. Because while projects are ongoing, you in your capacity as commissioner need to keep providing oversight visitations, and it is from this backdrop that we give you these motorbikes,” Supt. Cole said.

According to him, several development projects are currently ongoing across Maryland County, and the motorbikes will enable commissioners to regularly visit project sites, monitor implementation, and better serve their respective districts.

Supt. Cole disclosed that  some of the ongoing projects include the construction of school buildings, town halls  and other development initiatives across the county, stating that the need of motorbikes has been a longstanding request from commissioners and local leaders.

He urged the commissioners to properly manage the motorbikes and ensure that they are used solely for official purposes.

Speaking on behalf of the commissioners, Harper District Commissioner, Napoleon Brown, expressed appreciation to the county administration and the Government of Liberia(GoL) for the support.

“On behalf of the commissioners, I take this time to extend my thanks to you, the Minister of Local Government and the President of Liberia for providing these motorbikes to enable us to travel through our districts and discharge our duties more effectively,” Commissioner Brown said.

Commissioner Brown noted that commissioners across the county have long appealed for motorbikes to ease transportation challenges and improve service delivery within their districts.

According to him, commissioners have repeatedly raised the issue during visits by senators, representatives, and other government officials to Maryland County, emphasizing the importance of reliable transportation in carrying out their responsibilities.

The donation is expected to improve the ability of commissioners to supervise development activities, engage communities, and respond more effectively to issues affecting residents across Maryland County.
