MONROVIA – Grand Gedeh County Electoral District #3 Representative, Jacob C. Debee, has congratulated the country’s main opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) on its 22nd Militant Anniversary, urging citizens to maintain peace and uphold Liberia’s democratic values as thousands of party supporters and opposition leaders converge on Zwedru for the celebration.

In a statement issued ahead of the anniversary program, Rep. Debee extended warm congratulations to the CDC and praised the people of Grand Gedeh County for the hospitality they have shown to the party’s leadership, members and guests who attended the event.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the CDC on the occasion of its 22nd Militant Anniversary celebrated in Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County,” the lawmaker said, adding that although he was unable to attend because of prior engagements, he remained appreciative of the enthusiasm and support the county’s residents continue to demonstrate toward the party.
Rep. Debee said the CDC’s decision to commemorate its milestone anniversary in Grand Gedeh was fitting, noting that the county has long been regarded as one of the party’s strongest political strongholds.
“The selection of Grand Gedeh is no surprise,” he said.
“The CDC has its strongest base here in Grand Gedeh County. Even many of those now opposing the party were once either members or supporters, a support base that enabled the party to consistently secure its highest vote totals in presidential elections during Liberia’s post-war democratic era.”
The District 3 Representative also commended residents for welcoming not only the CDC leadership but also leaders and delegates of other opposition political parties that participated in the anniversary activities.
He urged citizens to continue demonstrating tolerance and respect for constitutional rights, emphasizing that Liberia’s 1986 Constitution guarantees freedom of movement, freedom of association, and a multiparty democratic system.
“I strongly encourage our citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding,” Rep. Debee stated.
“The Liberian Constitution guarantees free movement, free association and multi-party democracy.”
Amid the large political gathering, the Grand Gedeh lawmaker appealed to residents, particularly young people not to allow themselves to be drawn into acts of violence or political confrontation.
“As the party celebrates its 22nd Militant Day Anniversary in the county of its loyal supporters, I join other citizens in urging everyone to continue embracing peace and unity,” he said. “Let no one absolutely use you to fight battles that will bring disgrace to our beloved county.”
Rep. Debee described the anniversary as an opportunity to reaffirm Liberia’s democratic principles and called on citizens to use the occasion to strengthen national cohesion rather than deepen political divisions.
“May this anniversary be a reminder of our collective commitment to democracy, peace, and development,” he said.
The CDC’s 22nd Militant Anniversary attracted party supporters, opposition figures and political stakeholders from across Liberia to Zwedru, with organizers describing the event as a celebration of the party’s political journey and its role in the country’s democratic process.
Among other things, Rep. Debee wished all visitors a pleasant stay in Grand Gedeh County, affectionately referring to Zwedru by its popular nickname, “Zulu Whisky.”
