KARLUWAY, Maryland County — It was a joyous weekend for residents of Karluway Statutory District in Maryland County as several development projects were dedicated on Saturday, April 6, 2026.

The projects, spearheaded by Maryland County Senator J. Gble-bo Brown, included a modern town hall in Manolu Township, a modern market hall in Boniken Township, and the donation of a brand-new motorbike to the Karluway District Police Detachment.
According to engineers, the modern town hall is valued at US$95,000, while the modern market hall is valued at US$48,599.
Senator Brown disclosed that the town hall is a legislative project, supported with additional funding from his personal initiative, while the market hall was constructed entirely through his personal initiative.
He noted that the township hall is intended to serve elders and citizens across Karluway Statutory District for important meetings and community gatherings.
According to the senator, the district has long lacked an official meeting space, especially since Karloken City, the district capital, does not have a city hall.
“This hall constructed in Manolu Township will now serve the entire district, though it carries the name of Manolu Township,” Senator Brown stated.
He added that one of the two offices in the hall will be used by the Manolu Township Commissioner, while the other will serve as an office for the Magistrate of the Manolu Court.
The senator also reflected on his development priorities, noting that the project marks his first major initiative since his re-election. He explained that during his first term, his focus centered on empowering women—particularly marketers—through loan programs. However, he emphasized that infrastructure development will now be prioritized during his current term.
Construction of the facilities was carried out by Gamac Group of Companies, headed by CEO Gabriel Tarpeh. Presenting the keys to Senator Brown, Tarpeh commended the senator for prioritizing local contractors.
“It’s an opportunity that the senator has recognized a local construction company. We see it as empowerment. Honorable Senator, thank you for trusting Maryland,” Tarpeh said.
Henry Cole, Superintendent of Maryland County, also expressed appreciation to Senator Brown, describing the projects as timely and impactful.
“Senator Brown, I stand here to say a big thank you on behalf of the people of Maryland County. Keep your promise,” Superintendent Cole stated.
“Whenever I passed by to discuss how the money was circulating and benefiting them, they reported that they had nowhere to sell. So, this is where my plan to construct this market came about. The marketing superintendent kept calling me, and I promised her that I would construct a market. I’m so happy to turn over this market hall today,” he emphasized.
Speaking on behalf of local marketers, Abraham Wilson, Superintendent of the Liberian Marketing Association in Maryland County, expressed gratitude to God and Senator Brown for the long-awaited facility.
He explained that marketers in the area had struggled for years, operating under a tent while hoping for a permanent structure.
Wilson further urged residents to take ownership of the facility and make full use of it, especially during the Tuesday market day.
“This market shouldn’t die — let us make use of it and value it,” Wilson said.
Additionally, Senator Brown donated a brand-new motorbike valued at approximately US$1,000 to the Karluway Detachment of the Liberia National Police to enhance security operations across District 3.
Receiving the motorbike, Inspector Samuel T. Brown Jr., Commander of the Karluway Detachment, expressed appreciation to the senator.
“Our dream has now come true. It will reduce the burdens of renting bikes before going to crime scenes,” Inspector Brown said.
Senator Brown also disclosed that remaining projects including a bus stop at William V. S. Tubman University in Harper City and another modern town hall in Barrobo Statutory District will be dedicated soon.
The senator further announced plans to break ground this coming week for the construction of more than five hand pumps across the county to improve access to safe drinking water.
The projects are expected to significantly improve governance, commerce, security, and access to basic services across Karluway Statutory District and other parts of Maryland County.
