Nimba County– Contrary to assertions by some Liberians, Senator Samuel Kogar has said his victory in the Nimba County Senatorial By-Election was not as the result of Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s influence.

Senator Kogar made it clear that his win over former Nimba County Superintendent Edith Gongole Wehyee was earned through his own campaign works, record in the county and strong relationships with Nimbaians (natives of Nimba County).
At the same time, Senator Kogar intimated, “I, Samuel Kogar, used my own money to campaign for the Unity Party across Nimba County. The records are there. I didn’t ask the Unity Party for a cent, I used my own funds to campaign for the party in Nimba County and I went everywhere campaigning for them.”
Speaking during a press conference at the Voice of Nimba Radio in Ganta, Nimba County, Senator Kogar stated that he visited Vice President Koung during the campaign to seek blessings as a senior government official from Nimba County and not to request for financial support.
He said the Unity Party(UP) provided US$ 7,000 during the second round of the election to supplement his earlier efforts. The Nimba County Senator expressed disappointment and frustration with some staff in the vice president’s office.
He averred that when former Superintendent Wehyee visited Vice President Koung, staff photographed her and one of her senatorial supporters, portraying her as begging the vice president, a portrayal Senator Kogar described as unfair.
Meanwhile, Senator Kogar thanked the people of Nimba County and pledged to continue speaking out for residents and addressing injustices in society and the county.
