Monrovia – The Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), in collaboration with Kvinna till Kvinna and third-party implementing partners—the Alliance for Peace, Justice and Human Rights, the National Young Women Political Council of Liberia, the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FEJAL), and the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL)—has commenced baseline assessment activities for the PeaceGen Project, a three-year initiative aimed at strengthening women and youth leadership in transitional justice, reconciliation and sustainable peacebuilding across Liberia.

The project is funded by the European Union and the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia and seeks to enhance the meaningful participation of women and young people in peacebuilding and reconciliation processes throughout the country.
The baseline assessment marks a critical first step in the implementation of the project. It is designed to gather essential data that will inform evidence-based interventions and ensure that project activities are responsive to the needs and realities of local communities.
As part of the assessment, project teams are engaging stakeholders and community members through surveys, stakeholder mapping exercises and focus group discussions in the target counties of Bomi, Bong, Montserrado, Nimba and Sinoe.
In Bomi County, implementing partners recently conducted an orientation session for field staff who will serve as data collectors and support stakeholder mapping efforts.
Meanwhile, surveys and focus group discussions are actively underway in Montserrado, Bong, Nimba and Sinoe Counties, where youth representatives, community members and key stakeholders are providing valuable insights that will help shape the project’s implementation.
The PeaceGen Project aims to create inclusive platforms for dialogue, strengthen community participation in peace and reconciliation processes, amplify the voices of women, youth and survivors and promote social cohesion and sustainable peace.
According to project partners, findings from the baseline assessment will provide a strong foundation for measuring progress and ensuring that interventions are community-driven, inclusive and impactful.
Through this initiative, WONGOSOL and its partners reaffirm their commitment to advancing inclusive peacebuilding, supporting reconciliation efforts, and empowering women and young people to play active roles in shaping a peaceful and prosperous future for Liberia.
