The Makpouma Descendants Development Association (MADDA) is on the verge of completing the first citizen sponsored hospital in Grand Cape Mount County, with construction now 98 percent completed.

The project began in March 2024, is fully funded by the children and grandchildren of our ancestral hometown of Makpouma, in Grand Cape Mount County who are living both in Liberia and in the diaspora.
MADDA is an association that brings together citizens from five ancestral settlements spread across western Liberia, Bomi and Grand Cape Mount Counties with Makpouma being the original settlement.
According to the Project Director, Mohammed V. Nyei, the official groundbreaking took place on a five acre parcel of land generously donated by the chiefs and elders of Vonzuan and neighboring towns along the Bendu Highway in Gawula District.
The new medical center features a 30 bedroom facility that includes all essential health service departments approved by the Grand Cape Mount County Health Team an additional infrastructure will include fully furnished doctors’ and nurses’ quarters, 24-hour electricity, and a water supply for the entire compound.
Mr. Nyei noted that once the hospital is dedicated, the medical center will be equipped to perform surgical procedures and provide a wide range of basic healthcare services to citizens of the district and the entire Grand Cape Mount County.
Citizens of the county have expressed deep appreciation to MADDA for undertaking what many described as a historic and life changing initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery system in the region.
Their gratitude grew further when MADDA recently received a 40 foot container of assorted medical equipment and supplies donated by the U.S.-based humanitarian organization Project C.U.R.E.
The donation was made in response to a request by the organization’s International Coordinator, Mr. Ali Nyei, and followed by a needs assessment conducted last year by a Project C.U.R.E representative.
In a gesture of solidarity and partnership, MADDA also donated some medical supplies to the government run Sinje Comprehensive Health Center to help improve service delivery there.
Dr. Daniel Kofa, head of the Grand Cape Mount County Health Team, praised the association for its generosity, describing the support as “overwhelming” and a sign of MADDA’s commitment to working mcollaboratively with county health authorities.
Meanwhile, recruitment for staff positions at the new hospital has been completed, with shortlisted candidates expected to be invited for interviews soon. Major rehabilitation work is also ongoing on the road leading to the facility, an effort fully spearheaded by the organization to ensure smooth access once the center opens.
