Monrovia – Wologizi FC’s hopes of extending their recent surge in the LFA First Division came to a crashing halt on Wednesday, as they fell 3-1 to a clinical LPRC Oilers side at the D. Tweh Field.

The “Mountaineers,” who entered the match on the back of impressive consecutive wins over Jubilee FC and Down Town FC, were brought back to earth by an “Oil Boys” squad that dominated the middle of the park and took advantage of defensive lapses.
The damage was largely done in a devastating two-minute spell during the first half.
Wologizi’s backline held firm until the 35th minute when Fredrick Bono found the back of the net to give the visitors the lead. Before the home side could regroup, Oilers struck again in the 36th minute, leaving the Wologizi faithful in stunned silence.
Any hopes of a second-half comeback were dampened just before end of the first half as Jarius Holmes pounced to extend the Oilers’ lead to 3-0, effectively putting the match out of reach for the hosts.
Wologizi did manage to salvage some pride in the 62nd minute when they were awarded a penalty, which was calmly converted to pull the score to 3-1.
However, the Mountaineers struggled to create clear-cut opportunities for the remainder of the match, as Oilers’ veteran defense stifled their attacking threats.
The defeat sees Wologizi FC slide down to 9th place on the league table with 30 points. For LPRC Oilers, the victory consolidates their 5th-place position, moving them to 37 points from 23 matches.
The result leaves the Wologizi technical staff with plenty of questions to answer regarding their defensive consistency as they look to bounce back in their next fixture.

While Wologizi stumbled, Heaven Eleven FC managed a come-from-behind in a 2-1 victory over Freeport FC.
The win moves Heaven Eleven into 8th place, while Freeport continues to struggle in the relegation zone.
